Objectives: The main objective of the programme is that our students attain the following:
- An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering in Mechanical Engineering.
- An ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data related to Mechanical Engineering.
- An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability and sustainability.
- An ability to function on multidisciplinary teams.
- An ability to identify, formulate and solve (complex) engineering problems.
- An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility.
- An ability to communicate effectively.
- The broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental and societal context.
- A recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning,
- A knowledge of contemporary issues.
- An ability to use the techniques, skills and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
- An Ability to apply multivariate calculus and differential equations to model, analyze, design and realize physical systems components or processes.
Activities: Mechanical Engineering is one of the major activities in the engineering profession and its principles are involved in the design, study, development and construction of all the physical devices and system. Continued research and development have led to better machines process helping the mankind.
The faculty members are grouped under three broad specialization- Design, Manufacturing and Thermal & Fluid Engineering. They have been engaged in various research activities in all the classical areas of Mechanical Engineering and upcoming areas too. Experimental and computational facilities are being continuously upgraded.
Mechanical Engineering is the core engineering discipline, the concepts of which are prerequisite for every other branch of engineering as rightly reflected by the curriculum framed by reputed universities all over the world. This is precisely the reason for many mechanical engineers to occupy responsible positions practically in every field of activity - Space, Aviation, Power, Defence and of course the elite Information technology as well. Most of the engineering based management experts hail from mechanical engineering background. There is substantial contribution by this faculty towards green revolution in the country.
